Lancaster and Valois, a reference to the royal houses of England and France, focuses on a period that was home turf for the Gothic Voices: 1350-1420, the decline of an older, rhythmically bound musical style and the triumph of a new one that emphasized flowing lines and musical consonance. Some very complex works emerged form this period, such as Solage's "Tres gentil," but also quite a few high-spirited, directly stated ones. These are interspersed throughout this album. Transfers are made at 768 kBits/s, directly from the disc. Notes, texts and translations are enclosed.
